First climate change litigation : 14 local authorities and 5 NGOs take oil firm Total to court

A coalition of French NGOs, including Sherpa, and local authorities took oil firm Total to court this week for alleged climate inaction, in what is being viewed as a test case for environmentalists in their fight against the fossil fuel giants. Even more broadly, campaigners say, the case could be a tipping point in a global struggle to ensure corporations are held to higher standards of social and environmental responsibility.
